Why Specialty Contractors Encourage Homeowners to Use New Items

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Michael “Mike” Lelasher is an experienced construction professional who served as vice president of Cardinal Builders for six years. In this role, he was in charge of all areas of the company’s operations and finances, as well as the development of innovative business strategies. Mike Lelasher’s areas of competence extend to specialty contracting.

Remodeling contractors step in to help homeowners organize home remodel plans and supervise remodeling projects through completion. Most of the time, homeowners find themselves in situations where they need to remodel their homes but lack the experience and time to organize and supervise the remodeling projects by themselves. This is where a remodeling contractor comes in. Remodeling contractors have diverse networks of subcontractors that handle various aspects of remodeling projects. They work with their subcontractors to carry out each project.

An integral part of remodeling involves replacing existing structures or appliances with new ones. Some homeowners explicitly instruct their contractors to reuse some existing items. While these superficially cut remodeling costs, the idea that this saves money is ostensible.

For instance, Mr. C wants to remodel his kitchen but asked his contractor to reuse his kitchen cabinet from 1970 because he cherished the vintage design. Their contractor may endeavor to carry out the project as per request, but the subcontractor in charge of that aspect of the project may find out that the cabinet had lost its vigor when it was pulled from the wall during the project. At this point, reusing the cabinet may no longer be a money-saver for Mr. C. because there’s a high tendency that the cabinet will wear out sooner than later. Their contractor might have warned them about this earlier, even before the project began.

Contractors may also advise owners to use new items for some aspects of remodeling projects to fulfill the requirements of modern building codes. If house remodeling projects fail to follow the codes, the home will be interdicted from use when inspected.
